About Earl Grey - Flavored Black Tea
Essence from a Mediterranean pear shaped citrus fruit, bergamot, is responsible for the distinctive flavor of Earl Grey. Named for Charles Grey, who acted as Prime Minister under William IV (ruled 1830-1837), the story goes, he acquired this tea while serving as a diplomat to China. But this is a mystery because nowhere in Chinese tea history have they ever flavored a tea with Bergamot. This mattered little to the people of England for the tea grew to be quite popular and still is today.
A Few Words On Taste
Perfectly scented, smooth, citric, and delicately floral. The liquor is medium-bodied with a well-rounded bergamot flavor. Enjoy it solo or with the addition of milk and or sugar.
Brewing Instructions
- Fill your kettle with freshly drawn water from the purest available source.
- Heat the water to boiling.
- Measure approximately 1 rounded tsp. of tea per 6-8 ounces of water.
- Place the tea in your preferred brewing vessel: teapot, filter basket, large tea ball, etc.
- Pour the heated water over the tea and steep for 3-5 minutes, (if a longer time is allowed the tea will become bitter) then serve.
Ingredients: Ceylon black tea, oil of bergamot, and blue cornflowers.
