Sweeteners
All teas should be tasted first before adding anything. Then, if desired, a preferred sweetener may be added. Light sugars are best because honey, and the darker unrefined sugars, have a noticeable effect on the flavor of the tea. Low calorie sweeteners are fine if they come from a natural source (e.g. Stevia, or Splenda).
Milk or Cream
In regard to milk or cream, the addition of these compliments, in my opinion, should only be made with some black teas. I personally recommend the use of milk only, as cream is too powerful for the delicate flavor of tea. I have, however, been witness to people pouring milk or cream into some of the most delicate Darjeelings, Greens, Whites, and Oolongs.
Always remember, while considering compliments for your cup, that the most important part of this equation is your taste. Since it’s your cup of tea, prepare it however you wish.
